Hope in the Hurting

I found myself sitting at my desk in tears several times this past week as I read through my news feed; overflowing with tragedy and gut-wrenching stories. In the few weeks, I have read numerous stories of cruel suffering too difficult to comprehend. As I heard the news break of Robb elementary in Uvalde I struggled to process it all. I pictured those sweet children sitting in their classrooms carefree and full of excitement as they anticipated the summer ahead. Parents who never fathomed not being able to take their children home that evening. As a professional who has not only witnessed the death of children but who has grieved with parents as we told them the news, this was soul-crushing. As a mother of two little ones, it devastates me. It is in the midst of tragedy such as this I must remind myself of what I know to be true; that God is Sovereign. Senseless violence all around, Answers desiring to be found.

Crimes of injustice plague further each day, Increased mourning with every slay.

Sinful hearts with no regard for human life, Evil actions cultivate more strife. Innocent lives, stolen without care, Families with grief too weighty to bear.

Tear filled eyes and heavy hearts, In mere minutes lives torn apart. Peace, wisdom, and compassion, for these we pray; Finding solace in Him for each coming day. Beautiful yet broken this world in which we live, Beauty from ashes; a gift He can give. His character unchanged, His promises hold true; Praise to Him, Maker of all things new. We hope for the day He will restore all things, Every tear wiped; pain and death’s final sting. Trading sorrow for joy as we reign by His side. Because of His grace, we stand sanctified. Glory to God, our Father most high. Glory to God, our Father most high. “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” Revelation 21:4-5a Sweet friend, I pray this poem the Lord placed on my heart and the scriptures above remind you that we serve a loving Father who is still good and trustworthy; despite the content of our news feeds. May we allow Him to be our portion and hope in the hurting!
